Boy what a difference a year makes! Today was my 3 year check up and things went way better than last year! I was totally into it this time! I was happy, did everything the doctor asked me to do, and didn't cry one bit! Everything checked out great and the best news was that I didn't have to get any shots today! Unfortunately, I was informed that when I turn 4, I will have to get four shots! Oh, well...I have a year until I have to worry about that!

Today was my 2 year old doctor visit!  Things went just as they did during my 18 month check up!  I cried from the time we were called backed to the nurses station, until we walked out of the door!  Everything checked out ok as far as anyone knows (it was hard to hear with all my crying)!  Today we saw Dr. Andrew (Fox) and he talked with Mommy a little bit about discipline.  I cried extra hard during that speech in hopes of her missing the conversation!  I did have to get one shot (Hepatitis vaccine) and I cried when I got that but got a little happy when I got a My Little Pony sticker!  Thankfully I don't have to go back until I am 3!!

  • It was back to Dr. Fox's today for my 18 month well baby check up, and guess what??  It wasn't that bad!  I did not have to get any shots today!!  It was a pretty typical day at the doctors office.  They weighed me (I cried), measured me (I cried), and checked out the rest of my body (I cried!)  I do not like to be touched by anyone at the doctors office.  Dr. Fox said that I am just like every other 18 month old she sees!  So since my last appointment I have made some strides in the height department!  I am now right in the 50th percentile.  My weight is still right at the 25th percentile, and my head is still hanging in right above the 75th percentile!!  You know what they say...big head, big brain!!!  Dr. Fox talked to Mommy about getting rid of my paci before my baby brother comes.  I don't really like that idea, but we will see how it goes.  She also said that I was ahead of the game in the speech department, and that I was a very social little girl!!  I love a compliment!  We don't have to go back again until I am 2 years old!!

Let's make a long story short.  Mommy and Daddy took me back to the very first eye doctor that recommended glasses.  After a few unpleasant visits with the other doctor, they decided that in the end Dr. Liao's office is where I needed to be.
Let me start off by saying that I hate going to the eye doctor.  The drops and bright lights in my eyes really irritate me!
She did a quick exam of my eyes and then gave me the drops to diailate my eyes.
After her exam she decided that she wanted to cut my lens strength in half (+2.0) to see if that would help me accept my glasses.  She believes that the other glasses I have are too strong to start with, which makes everything blurry, which in return causes me to yank them off my face immediately after Mommy puts them on!
She said that I am slightly far sighted and the glasses would help my eyes be able to focus and relax.  In the long run this should make them stronger and eventually I may not need them again.  The other option is to have surgery.  Neither the doctor, or Mommy and Daddy are ready for this alternative!
We will go back to Dr. Liao in January or February to see how things are going!

  • Today was my 15 month well baby check up!  I pretty much have these appointments figured out by now!  They weigh me, they measure me, they talk about me, and then to finish things off they poke me and make me cry!!  I am still right around the 25th percentile for weight (right above) and height(right below) and my head is still a little on the large size!  Once again the focus of Mommy and Dr. Fox's discussion was discipline.  She said it is my job everyday to test Mommy and Daddy (check!) and it is their job to say "No!" (Check! Double Check!)  I only got one shot because Mommy and Dr. Fox decided to wait again on the MMR and Chicken Pox shot.  It's back again at 18 months to do it all over again!

We went to Dr. Ing's today so he could check my eyes.  Mommy told him that I am not good at keeping my glasses on...I can't believe she told on me!  Anyways, he did a few tests and said that he didn't see me favoring either eye and that my vision has not changed, or has maybe slightly improved.  He told Mommy that from what he could see and because I make it difficult anyway that she could quit putting the glasses on me!  He will continue to monitor my eyes and we may have to try the glasses at a later time when I can cooperate a little more!

click to enlarge Today I went to the doctor for my 1 year well baby check up.  I was supposed to go last week, but I was not "well" so we decided to wait another week.  Anyways, I have lost a little weight since I was weighed last week.  Today I weighed 19 pounds and I measured 26 3/4 inches tall!  Dr. Fox said I was in the 50th percentile for my weight and the 25th percentile for my height.  She said that if I continue at this rate I will probably be about 5 foot 3 inches tall, that is the Madaus in me for sure!!  Mommy and Daddy also started talking with the doctor about eating habits and discipline...I did not like what they had to say!  Dr. Fox really suggested that Mommy and Daddy start feeding me the same meal that they eat and if I don't like it they are not to make me anything else!  She said that I would eat if I was hungry and if they catered to me they would be making a separate meal for me for the next 18 years!  I have recently become a picky eater so I don't think this is going to work well for me!  Also the doctor said that my parents should start working on saying "no", and setting boundaries for me now.  She also said that they could start using time-outs...the nerve of her!!  After that little discussion it was shot time!  Mommy and Daddy decided not to give me the MMR shot at this time.  This shot is kind of controversial right now so she said if we were at all uncomfortable with it we could wait until a later time.  Even though she talked about punishing me I still think I am lucky to have such a nice doctor!!

Mommy and I flew to Oahu to see Dr. Ing today!  We were supposed to go there few weeks ago so he could check my eyes, but we just got my glasses this week so we wanted to wait until we had them.  Anyways, he said that the patching must be working because I seem to be using both eyes equally.  So much to my delight we do not have to use the patch anymore!!  He wants me to wear my glasses as much as Mommy can keep them on me and then come back again in 4 months!

Today Mommy and I went to Dr. Fox's for my 9 month well baby appointment!  Mommy was anxious to get me on the scale because she was sure that it was going to reach the 20 pound mark (after all the "good eating" I have been doing)!  Boy was she surprised when I came in at a petite 18 pounds 2 ounces.  I only gained a little over a pound since my last appointment, two months ago!  Advice to everyone...eat lots of vegetables like I do,  it does wonders at keeping those number low on the scale!!
After the nurse got all of my "statistics," we went in to see the doctor.  She checked me out and said that I looked great!  We went over things such as my eating, and sleeping habits.  She told Mommy that I can start eating pretty much whatever I want, with the exceptions of milk, honey, egg whites, and peanut butter.  As far as my sleeping habits go she said that I should be doing better than I am!!  She suggested that Mommy hand over the night duty to Daddy one weekend.  She thinks that if Daddy is the one to come in and offer me a bottle of water, that I will soon realize that it just isn't worth waking up for!  We will have to see what happens!
After that it was shot time!  I only had to get two shots this time and let me tell you I was a brave little girl.  The nurse gave me the first one and I didn't cry at all!  When she gave the second one, I whimpered a little and that was it!  I am one tough cookie!

Today I had to go visit the eye doctor in Honolulu.  To make a long story short, Dr. Ing decided that I am going to need to wear glasses for a while to help the muscles in my left eye strengthen up.  I am probably going to make this hard on Mommy and Daddy because I really don't think I am going to like wearing them!

Mommy took me to the doctor today because I don't feel well!  I have a runny nose, watery eyes and a little cough!  Since we are getting ready for a long trip home to Indiana she wanted to make sure it wasn't in my ears, because that would make miserable on the plane!  Anyways, Dr. Fox said my ear looked a little irritated but said it still looked ok.  She gave Mommy and antibiotic just in case things got worse while we were gone!

Today was my 6 month well baby appointment at Dr Fox's!  Mommy was pretty anxious to go because she wanted to talk to the doctor about my eyes.  At my 4 month appointment the doctor recommended that I see a pediatric eye specialist because she noticed that one of my eyes seemed a little weaker than the other.  Mommy and I had to fly over to Oahu to see the specialist.  Dr. Liao said that I needed to wear glasses to correct the problem.  Mommy thought this was a little a little extreme and she decided to get a second opinion.  A couple days later she went to Dr. Ing's.  Dr. Ing had a totally different view.  He said that the problem was minimal or even non-existent and just recommended that we keep an eye on it and come back in 6-8 weeks.  Well after that Mommy didn't know who to listen to so that is why she wanted to talk to Dr. Fox.  She rechecked my eyes and noticed a big improvement since my 4 month visit.  She said that she agreed that the glasses seemed a little extreme and suggested that we just keep watching things, but she believed that my eyes were naturally getting stronger and that I would not have a problem.  After talking about my eyes we moved on to my favorite subject...food!  Mommy thought the doctor was going to tell her that she is feeding me too much, but she said just the opposite!  Dr. Fox said that Mommy might want to start feeding me more during the day so hopefully I will start sleeping through the night...sounds good to me!!  Just like all the other visits, we had to finish off with the shots!  I did so good!  I didn't cry for the first two, but then I had enough and cried through the third and the fourth.  I quickly recovered and even smiled at nurse who gave them to me!

Nana and Mommy took me to Dr. Fox's today for my 4 month well baby check up!  Mommy couldn't wait to see how big I had grown.  I am almost 15 pounds now!  Can you believe just 4 months ago the doctor was concerned about my weight! Now look at me, I am a chubby little girl!!
I also had to get my shots again, which I wasn't looking forward to!  Mommy was a big girl this time and left the crying up to me!  Dr. Fox also gave us the go ahead on starting rice cereal!  I can't wait to get some real food in my belly!

Today is my 2 month birthday!
Mommy and Maw-Maw took me to see Dr. Fox (Beth) for my "well baby" checkup on Thursday and boy am I growing!  Dr. Fox said that developmentally I am doing great and that I have gained more weight than expected for as small as I was!  After the Doctor was done checking me out and talking to Mommy, it was time for my first set of shots!  I had no idea what was coming to me, but Mommy must have known because she was tearing up before the nurse gave me the first one!  I definitely did my fair share of crying but I'm not sure who cried more, me or Mommy!  It's a good think Maw-Maw was there to keep us both together!  I will go back again in 2 more months and unfortunately it will be the same routine all over again!

  • We went back to Dr. Fox's today and I must be eating well because I gained 12 1/2 ounces in a little over a week!!  Dr. Fox was very happy with my progress.  He spent about 45 minutes checking me out and talking to Mommy and Daddy.  Both doctors (husband and wife) are very nice!  I am very lucky to have them as my doctor.  We will go back when I am 2 months old to check up on me again and I will have to get 3 shots!  I'm not really sure what these shots are all about but, Mommy seems to be very nervous about them!!

  • We went back to the doctor today because I really gave Mommy a scare last night.  Dr. Fox advised Mommy yesterday to come back if I seemed real lethargic or would not wake for my feedings.  Well Mommy woke me up and tried to feed me and I was so sleepy that nothing would keep me awake so I could finish me feedings.  She tried lightly pinching my cheeks, tickling me, running my feet under cold water and she even put an ice pack on my feet and I would not respond at all.  This made Mommy pretty worried so she called Dr Fox first thing in the morning and she advised us to come in for another weigh in.  Mommy could tell that I was more responsive in the morning and I even peed for everyone while I was getting weighed in.  The doctor was happy with my weight gain but she is going to have me come back on Tuesday for another weigh in just to make sure things keep going in the right direction.

click to enlarge We went to the Doctor's because they wanted to make sure that I was not jaundice due to the ABO blood incompatability.  Everything was fine in that department but Dr. Fox was concerned because I lost 9% of my body weight.  They only like for babies to loose at the most 10% of their birth weight so they were very concerned because I was right on the borderline.  I was also not peeing as much as I should have been and I was very sleepy.  The doctor was concerned that I may be getting dehydrated.  They advised Mommy and Daddy to feed me a formula supplement and come back on Tuesday for a weigh in.
